23-yr-old woman techie shot dead in Noida

A 23-year-old female software engineer was shot dead by a man in the parking area of Shatabdi Rail Vihar society in Noida's Sector 62 on Wednesday morning.

The victim's family named the accused in the FIR, but police are yet to identify him.

The deceased, Anjali Rathour, worked as a trainee software engineer with mobile manufacturing company Lava in Noida's Sector 63.

Cops said that Rathour hailed from Jagadhri near Yamuna Nagar in Haryana and was a graduate of Lovely Professional University in Jalandhar.

In June last year, she got campus placement at Lava after which she started working with the company.

The incident took place at 6.34 am when Rathour was shot once in the head.

According to police, a male friend of the victim is the prime suspect.

"Though the CCTV camera installed near the elevators captured the scene, the shooter is yet to be identified. We suspect a male friend of hers as the murderer," said police.

CCTV footage shows that the victim was first chased by the assailant and was suddenly shot in the parking area of the apartment. After shooting her, the accused fled the spot.

According to reports, Rathour had moved to the society around four-five months ago and had been living in a rented apartment along with six other girls.

A man, suspected to be her boyfriend, had called her phone around 6.05 am on Wednesday. She opened the door and followed him to the ground floor, after which she she did not return to her flat.

Her body was spotted by one of her roommates while she was leaving for a coaching classes.

By then, people had gathered on the ground floor.

Rathour was found lying on the ground in a pool of blood. He roommate alerted her friends and managed to take Rathour to nearby Fortis Hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead.

Arun Singh, Superintendent of Police (City), said: "The family of the deceased was informed after the incident and they reached Noida in the afternoon. The body has been sent for post-mortem. The man who shot her has not been identified. She received the bullet in her head.

We are trying to fetch the call details and the CCTV footage of other cameras installed in the society. We are probing the matter from all angles".

A case of murder was registered at Sector 58 police station and an investigation has been initiated.

Meanwhile, Rathour's family members alleged that she was killed by a friend who hails from Etawah in Uttar Pradesh.

According to their statement, Anjali was not into any sort of enmity with anyone. "She was an introvert," said one of her relatives.
According to the victim's phone records, the suspected was reportedly her classmate at the university.
