Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports Vijay Goel on Friday flagged off the Slum Yuva Daud to mark the beginning of the Adopt a Slum Campaign initiated by his Ministry and Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS).
The run started from Delhi University's Shankar Lal Hall and ended at the Rugby Stadium, with around 5,000 youngsters from various slums.
Goel said such events would help to engage the youth and know about their skills and ideas. "We will organise mini-fests in slums with themes of Swachhta, Digital India, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao etc."
He further stated that the Adopt a Slum campaign will involve groups like NSS, public schools, RWAs, NGOs, rotary clubs etc. The Minister himself has adopted Indra slum of Timarpur area.
