DHBVN incurs loss of Rs 42 cr per month

Even after charging the residents of Gurugram a higher rate of Rs 8 per unit for power supply, the state-owned power supply firm Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) continue to make heavy losses.

In the financial year of 2016-17, the state electricity board incurred a loss of Rs. 500 crores in Gurugram district. DHBVN continues to incur a loss of Rs. 41 crores per month.

While in the financial year 2015-16, the state-owned unit incurred a loss of Rs 450 crores, in the successive year, the losses have increased to the tune of Rs 50 crore.

The main reason cited by officials is the line losses caused due to increase number of power thefts. Thefts have been recorded in both industrial areas and residential areas.

New Palam Vihar, Sheetla Mata colony, Dhankot, Bajghera and Daultabad are such areas. Ironically, in the raids being conducted by the vigilance team of DHBVN, there are power thefts also being conducted in the posh areas of the city like DLF, Sushant Lok and South City. Over 500 residents in Gurugram have been legally charged with the offence. The vigilance team stated that in last three months, power theft amounting to a loss of Rs.10 crores to DHBVN have been held.

 On Tuesday, the vigilance department in its raid caught the power theft of 62 kilowatts charging the offenders with Rs 15 lakhs.  

Recently in a raid conducted at Police lines area, over 20  Gurugram police officials were charged with offences of power theft and tampering of metres.
