Delhiites on Saturday were thrilled to see school children assisting traffic cops at various intersections in Delhi. This was part of a Road Safety Awareness Summer Camp organised by Delhi Traffic Police.
The new initiative was organised to sensitise students about the nuances of traffic management. Students from various schools from Class IX to XII were taken to selected intersections where they assisted Delhi Traffic Police in regulating traffic using hand signals.
This was a unique sight for motorists on Delhi roads, who were pleasantly surprised to see students helping traffic cops.
"It's a good feeling to see children on roads educating the public about Traffic rules. At least some of us might learn from them. It is for our own safety," said Hina, a passer-by.
Practical training in manual traffic drill has been a regular feature of the five-day long summer camp organised by Delhi Police recently. On completion of summer camp on Saturday, students got an opportunity to test their proficiency in traffic drill by regulating traffic at selected intersections such as Vijay Chowk, C-Hexagon and Tilak Marg from 10.30 am to 11.30 am.
Commuters were sensitised about traffic rules and road safety norms by students holding placards with road safety messages. Students also distributed road safety literature to the public.
