Sacked Delhi Water Minister Kapil Mishra, whose hunger strike entered day three on Friday, was advised hospitalisation by a team of doctors who examined him, while his mother on
Friday wrote a letter to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, accusing him of spreading lies about her son.
In her letter, Annapoorna Mishra said she was proud of her son and his protest fast. "I never thought my son would ask you questions and you would avoid them. Whenever I met you, you always talked about probity in public life," she wrote.
"You worked with Kapil but never understood him. He is very stubborn. He hasn't eaten anything for three days. As a mother, I request you to give him the small information what he has asked for," she said, in an emotional appeal adding, "He (Mishra) is not anybody's agent but of the truth."
Referring to Kejriwal's link with her family, Mishra's mother said: "Remember when you visited my house and said: 'I want to take Kapil in the party and make him contest the election but he is not listening'. He only wanted to be part of a movement, but you came to me saying you need him."
Annapoorna Mishra – a former Bharatiya Janata Party councillor – wrote that Kejriwal had told her once that when he first won with 28 MLAs in Delhi he had shown the MLAs a video of a neighbourhood meeting (Mohalla Sabha) conducted by her.
"Today, your people are calling me corrupt too and you are silent," she lamented.
Mishra, who is on an indefinite hunger strike, is demanding that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) divulge details of foreign tours undertaken by five leaders of the party. AAP has, in turn, accused him of following a script penned by the BJP.
Dr Javed Salam of Aruna Asaf Ali Hospital, who examined Mishra on Friday, said: "His blood sugar level has dropped to 81 mg/dL and intravenous fluids need to be started immediately. His pulse is low. He is going into dehydration because of poor salt intake. We have thus advised hospitalisation."
He added that Mishra, who is on a hunger strike in his home in Civil Lines, may also suffer from heat exhaustion, not just because of the hot days but also because he is surrounded by many people radiating body heat.
Mishra, however, has refused to get admitted, Salam said.
