With Friday being the last date to file nominations for the Mayoral post in South and East Delhi Municipal Corporations, the MCD Civic Centre was thriving with propective candidates, who came along with droves of supporters.
The Bharatiya Janata Party's nominees were the most prominently among all nominees. Kamaljeet Sehrawat, the councillor from Dwarka, and Kailash Sankla from Punjabi Bagh filed their nominations for the post of Mayor and Deputy Mayor of SDMC, respectively. For EDMC, Neema Bhagat (from ward no 24-E) and Bipin Bihari Singh (from ward no 12-E) filed the nomination papers for the Mayor and Deputy Mayor's post, respectively.
After filing her nomination, Sehrawat said: "We will work in tune with Modi's development mantra and an essence of Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas, and will ensure that nobody has to visit again and again and he/she may return with a solution. We will sit together to prepare a road map and our achievements will be certainly liked by the citizens."
Sehrawat added that she would like to work with the Delhi Government in a cooperative manner.
BJP also nominated Bupender Gupta, elected from Raj Nagar, as the chairman of the Standing Committee of SDMC and Pravesh Sharma as the Standing Committee Chairman of EDMC.
As per an official statement, there is only one candidate for the three different posts in both EDMC and SDMC. Thus, it is likely that they will be elected unanimously in the house meeting, which will take place on May 19 for SDMC and on May 22 for EDMC.
"Arvind Kejriwal misled the women of Delhi with big promises on women security and empowerment. But once in power, he ignored women rights, while the BJP has instantly started work on women empowerment by ensuring their full participation in Municipal administration," said Delhi BJP general secretary Rajesh Bhatia.
