Over 600 slaughterhouses stand risk after MCG issues guidelines for license
With Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) planning to take action against unlicensed abattoirs after the May 15 deadline, over 600 abattoirs now stand at the risk of being closed.
The MCG in their notices sent to various abattoirs has asked them to meet certain conditions based on which the licence will be given.
The conditions set by the MCG officials for the abattoirs to get licence include having a slaughterhouse in closed premises, having a fridge and also a proper disposable system for the carcasses.
The MCG officials have already begun issuing notices to abattoirs in areas of Sector 56, Sector 22, Palam Vihar, Sikanderpur and Sector 54.
While the MCG officials have maintained that their main objective is to ensure cleanliness and hygienic environment. Meanwhile, certain owners have criticised the move stringent licensing conditions set by the MCG officials.
"I got a notice from the officials. While I meet certain conditions set by the MCG there are some terms which I will be unable to meet in such a short time. If any actions are going to be taken against me, I will definitely register my protest with the officials," said one such abattoirs owners in Sikanderpur.
According to MCG officials, illegal meat shops have again become a major problem. "Taking cognisance of the safety of the citizens, MCG has started issuing notices to illegal abattoirs zone wise. Our officials are in the process of surveying the shops," said the official. "Most of the licensed slaughter houses dump the carcasses at the vacant sites in the city," he added.
Not only in Gurugram but also in other cities of Haryana, the officials have bebegun seizing illegal abattoirs.
