The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) on Sunday has launched a special sanitation drive wherein 70 joint teams had been formulated, comprising Public Health, Civil and Horticulture departments with 100-150 staff members in each team along with self-help group volunteers.

Among them, five teams with one supervisor worked under the overall supervision of an officer of Director level, who coordinated and monitored the drive.

Special attention was given to clean the Kushak drain and cluster areas besides other work like sweeping the roads, picking wrappers and foods packets, removal of posters/banners, cleaning of drains and treatment of water bodies for anti-larva measure. "We vowed to remove the social stigma of dirty India which had been put on our head by the foreigners. We will work wholeheartedly to make the dream of Swachh Bharat of our Prime Minister into reality," said an NDMC official. The 45-day sanitation campaign will cover 50,000 households here.

The volunteers and team NDMC will visit door to door to create awareness about the segregation of garbage in the components such as bio-degradable and non-bio degradable.
