The New Delhi Municipal Council has been awarded Cleanest City in north zone of the country under the zone-wise Swachh Survekshan-2017, conducted by Urban Development Ministry, Government of India, while in National ranking it has come down three steps from fourth to seventh, however in 2014 the rank of the Council was 15th.
The Survekshan has been conducted across 500 cities of the country and out of the total marks of 2,000, the NDMC has secured 1707.96 marks. The marks secured under Municipal documentation, direct observation and citizen engagement are 819.95, 426.88 and 461.13 respectively.
The council is stepping up its efforts to bring up the ranking to the first one in the next Swachh Survekshan 2018. The strategy of the Council for 2017-18 will be as: 100% segregation of waste at source to be started from June 5 and has decided to make 5 colonies as "Zero Waste Colonies."
