NEW DELHI: Citing a case of a college student who faced extreme harassment on DTC route no 544 due to which she had to jump off the bus, the DCW has issued a notice to Transport commission and Delhi Police. The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) has asked the Transport Commissioner to explain the reason behind non-deployment of marshals in the buses and non-installation of CCTV cameras amid a rise in cases of eve-teasing. The DCW has asked the progress report of the case and if any action by police has been initiated in this regard.
Meanwhile, the Delhi police has intensified its checking in DTC and cluster buses with a special focus on route number 544. This route was in question after a lady raised an alarm on social media stating that her cousin has been molested multiple times on DTC buses on route 544.
"We are going to do this checking on a regular basis. We have zero tolerance against such cases. We have also requested the girl to approach the police and lodge a formal complaint. Meanwhile, our men in uniform and in civil dress will keep an eye on troublemakers in the buses," said DCP South Vijay Singh.
The woman in a series of tweets had said that her 19-year-old cousin staying in Delhi for the past 3 months has been molested at least 7 times inside the bus. She alleged that some boys specifically choose the bus to harass girls as it carries young college girls. The woman said that her sister once raised an alarm and threw out a guy one time, and he was on the bus again, the very next day. She said these are not coincidences but are sickening individuals who travel on that bus with the sole purpose of harassing young girls.
