DCW issues notice to Delhi Police on illegal drugs and liquor trade in Ghazipur
The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) on Friday sent a notice to Delhi Police asking them to act on the illegal drugs and liquor trade happening in the slum clusters in Ghazipur area of East Delhi.
The DCW has sent the notice to the city police after written complaints from over two hundred women citizens.
Sharing their grievances with the DCW members, the women from Ghazipur slums have mentioned about the problems they face due to the rampant drugs and illicit liquor business in the area.
The women raised the issue of how people from nearby areas come to buy drugs like opium, marijuana, hashish etc that are easily available in their area.
They also added that there was a large demand as well as sale of illegal liquor in the area.
The women complainants further highlighted the lack of safety and security because of the mushrooming of illegal liquor trade business in the area.
The women further mentioned that not only women but even small kids were getting adversely affected by the lack of action by the police on these businesses in the area.
The women citizens shared their grievances with the DCW at the Mahila Panchayat.
The Mahila Panchayat is a forum organized by DCW in various districts of Delhi where women at grassroots levels come and share their problems with DCW officials.
