New Delhi: Delhi Police will identify the places where the number of street children are more and database will be created to ensure their safety and security. In South Delhi, a meeting was held with the senior officials and all the ACPs and SHOs of the district where they had discussed the problems faced by the kids living on the street and also what should be done for their safety.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Romil Baaniya stated that they had the meeting with the NGOs which works on the safety of street children. "We will start to identify the places where the number of street children are more and database will be created regarding the kids," said the DCP adding that it was a foundation meeting. The database can help police to identify if some children went missing as it will be having their details.
He added that the safety of the kids are very much important and the police will make sure that they did not go into the wrong hands and paths like crime. Chetna, an NGO was involved in the meeting with the district police. Sanjay Gupta from the NGO stated that an elaborated discussion on topics such as child begging, drug peddling, construction of child-friendly police stations took place.
More than 30 areas in the national Capital have been identified by the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) where the minor children were found doing begging or labour.
According to NCPCR, they have conducted a survey in which they spotted around 35 to 40 places in Delhi including the areas nearby Metro stations, bus stops where they found children begging and some of them were also doing labour work.
Few areas included Dwarka red light, Palam flyover, Khajuri Khas red light, Tilak Nagar, areas nearby Uttam Nagar East, Shastri Park metro station, Connaught Place, Mool Chand flyover, India Gate.
"We found over 500 children involved in begging and labour activity," said an official from child rights body. The street children involved in begging have wounds and maimed so that it can draw more attention of passersby who can give them money for food.
The investigation from the child rights body also found that in most of the cases family forced the children to go for begging.
