Dancing thieves sell laptops just for Rs 2,000, arrested

New Delhi: A tricolour painted on rear part of an auto rickshaw led to the arrest of a burglars gang who used to dance before committing crime. Police claimed that they scanned more than 3,000 vehicles to get clues for the case. The accused used to sale stolen laptops for just Rs 1,500-2,000 to get money for drugs.

The accused have been identified as Alam, Anand, Sahib Ansari, Mohammad Safeeq, Salman, and Anil. On July 10, all the accused wanted to drink tea but did not have money so they broke open shutters of four shops in Novelty Cinema area. Before breaking the shutters, the burglars had danced on the street that was captured in CCTV cameras installed there.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Nupur Prasad stated, "During the investigation it was revealed that the accused used a Three-Seater auto Rickshaw (TSR) of Bajaj Compact with a tricolour at its rear. Further investigation was based upon this clue."

"About, 3,000 TSRs were short-listed with the help of RTO, Burari, Delhi. Further, 200 TSRs were again short-listed. "Two TSRs of identical description were pinpointed by the police team. The activities of these two TSRs' owners/drivers were kept under surveillance. Due to sustained efforts, the six accused were arrested," added the DCP.

The accused are illiterate vagabonds, who used to roam around crowded areas for stealing petty articles. Police claimed that the accused used to sell stolen items for a few thousand of rupees so that they can arrange money for drugs.

Police further claimed that Alam was found involved in 43 cases of theft, burglaries registered in Delhi. Stolen laptops and other electronic items recovered and house breaking instruments seized.
