Criminal carrying Rs 50,000 reward held after encounter

Greater Noida: A criminal carrying a cash reward of Rs 50,000 on his head has been arrested after an encounter with police in Bisrakh area of Greater Noida on Sunday.
The arrest was made in a joint operation carried out by Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) and Gautam Buddh Nagar police.
According to the police, acting on a tip-off two suspects were intercepted by a police party but they opened fire in a bid to escape. In retaliatory firing, Sanjay Aheria was injured while his accomplice Viresh managed to flee away. The criminal, who is in his mid-20s, hail from Aligarh. Several criminal cases of robbery and loot were registered against him in and around Bulandshahr and Aligarh districts.
"We received a tip-off that Sanjay was travelling on a motorcycle and was spotted near Jalalpur village roundabout. A police team was pressed into action and they intercepted the two accused near a farm in Bisrakh area. Police signaled them to stop but they opened fire upon which an accused received a bullet injury in his shoulder in retaliatory firing and he has been admitted to the hospital," said Raj Kumar Mishra, Deputy Superintendent of police, STF.
"Upon interrogation, he confessed to have been operating a gang of criminals that robbed people. They have been involved in several loots in Bulandshahr and nearby districts. Sanjay was wanted in over half a dozen cases of robbery and a reward of Rs 50,000 was declared on him," Mishra further said.
Police have seized a motorcycle and an illegal .32mm pistol from the possession of accused.
