New Delhi: In a recently held meeting at police headquarters, Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik checked the status of grievances related to Centralized Public Grievance Redress And Monitoring System (CPGRAMS) reviewed by Joint CPs (ranges) and districts DCPs. Highly placed police sources said that in meeting the top cop discussed district wise pendency of CPGRAMS grievances with senior officers.

According to the city police data (from January 1 to June 14), as many as 5,250 CPGRAMS grievances were received. In the current year (till June 14), 5,607 grievances including old complaints were disposed of.

"Police chief also reviewed CPGRAMS grievances reviewed by DCPs and Joint CPs," sources said.

Police sources further said that as many as 1,315 grievances were reviewed by Joint CPs (ranges). "One of the Joint CPs reviewed 51.50 percentage of grievances whereas two Joint CPs crossed 40 per cent in reviewing," added police sources. Further sources said that nearly 3,040 grievances were reviewed by district DCPs. "Two DCPs reviewed more than 90 per cent of grievances," sources further said.

Sources revealed that as many 874 grievances were found pending as on January 1. "Around 692 CPGRAMS grievances were disposed of after last crime review meeting," sources added. As many as 506 grievances added after the last meeting. Nearly 723 grievances were found pending on the last meeting.

Few months ago a meeting was held to review the redressal of grievances received through Centralized Public Grievance Redress and Monitoring System (CPGRAMS) which was chaired by Chairman, Public Grievances Commission. In the meeting, it was also told that officials should listen to the public and their grievances and not let them wait for so long.

Sources further said that more often than not, the grievances are not being heard properly by the police officers, investigating officers enquiring into the matter or not allowed to meet the SHO and supervisory officers.

"One patient hearing to the complainant at the initial stage strengthens the trust of the public in the police," Deputy Secretary said in the meeting. At the conclusion of the meeting, the emphasis was given to regular and intense monitoring of the grievances to minimize pendency.

Another meeting to review the status of pending complaints was held between the officers of Delhi Police this year. Sources said that the discussion was held to ensure the timely disposal of complaints coming from VIP references and other important authorities to city police.
