New Delhi: Two cousins were arrested for smuggling liquor inside a car in south east Delhi, said police on Thursday, adding that even their family members were involved in the illegal practice.
The accused were identified as Amit Kumar (24) and Sahil (20), who were smuggling illicit liquor from Faridabad in a Santro car. 42 cartons containing 2016 quarters of illicit liquor seized from the accused.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (South East) Chinmoy Biswal said the duo was arrested on January 14 by Head Constable Raghuraj and Constable Deepak of Jaitpur police station, from Pusta road.
"The accused disclosed that they are cousins and staying together. They used to buy liquor from Faridabad at cheap rates and sell it ahead in bordering area of Delhi and Noida at higher rates. Sahil's mother is also an infamous bootlegger and both the accused wanted to carry on with their family business," said the DCP on Friday.
Cops further said that Kumar had previously been arrested three times under te Excise Act in the past eight months.
After being released from jail, his activities were closely monitored by the police staff.
After his release, Kumar teamed up with his younger cousin Sahil and in order to earn the quick money, the two started working with one Amit.
They planned to bring in a large haul of liquor from Faridabad and decided to keep it in their house. They had planned to slowly dispose off the liquor at higher rates in parts of Noida and Jaitpur.
While doing so they were intercepted by police.
