New Delhi: A Delhi court on Saturday granted bail to a man accused in the first case of triple talaq registered in the Capital city.

Atir Shamim, a resident of the Azad Market neighbourhood near Tis Hazari, was granted bail by Duty Magistrate Dinesh Kumar on a personal bail bond of Rs 30,000 and two sureties of the like amount.

Making this the first arrest in a triple talaq case, after both houses of parliament passed a bill criminalising the act, Shamim's lawyers Bharat Bagga and Rishabh Kumar told the court that their client was being falsely implicated. "There is matrimonial dispute between the parties due to which the complainant made a false complaint and misused the process of law," they argued.

However, countering this argument, the counsel for Shamim's wife, Ramiya Yaha (29) and the public prosecutor said that the allegations against the accused in the case are serious.
