GURUGRAM: An illegal casino operating in Gurugram's posh South City area was busted by a special team of Gurugram Police late Wednesday night. The casino's owner and 42 other people, including four women, were arrested by law enforcement officials.
Paramjeet, the owner of the casino, was a former official in Gurugram Police and had been on the run after he was accused of the fake encounter of Sandeep Gadoli in Mumbai last year.
The accused had been operating the casino with his partner Kapil, a resident of Sector-40, Gurugram.
Not only was the illegal casino running in one of the city's posh areas, it was in close proximity to the Sector Road which sees heavy flow of traffic.
After receiving complaints that illegal gambling was taking place in bungalow number 158, K block, the special team raided the spot on Wednesday night.
During the raid, a pistol with four live cartridges, 210 tokens, three laptops, currency counting machines and a table game were seized.
Cops also seized over Rs 22 lakh in Indian currency and a substantial amount in American dollars.
Most of the 43 arrested people were customers, while the four women were employees.
A case under sections 13A-3-67 of the Gambling Act, 25-54-59 of the Illegal Arms Act and 61-1-14 of the Excise act has been registered at Sector 40 police station.
The venture was apparently so profitable to the accused that all three floors of the bungalow which were rented out were used for carrying out illegal betting.
