Gurugram: Commuters in Gurugram faced a harrowing time on Tuesday as all the Haryana Roadways buses in Gurugram went off the roads. To protest the government move to allow private buses to ply in the state, the employees of Haryana Roadways held a strike across the state on Tuesday. There are over 250 buses of Haryana Roadways plying in Gurugram.

In addition to city services, these buses are important in proving transportation services to other parts of the state such as Delhi, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand and Punjab. "The government is hell-bent on destroying the workers of the Haryana Roadways.

The government plans to pay private bus at a rate of Rs 38-per kilometre in comparison to Haryana roadways that are being paid at Rs 20 per kilometre," said one of the protestors.

Haryana Transport Minister Krishna Lal Pawar has also stated earlier that Haryana Roadways is already under a loss of over Rs 650 crore. Poor maintenance and faulty route planning are major challenges for the state transporter.
