Commissioner Shrivastava directs DCPs to ensure proper maintenance, use of crime-tracking systems

new delhi: The Delhi Police has directed Deputy Commissioners of Police to form teams and carry out checks in police stations and offices to ensure proper utilisation and maintenance of Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS).

The direction was issued in a meeting with the top brass of Delhi Police, where Commissioner SN Shrivastava directed DCP (Communication) and consultant CRO to resolve the issues related to high-speed internet connectivity expeditiously, as per sources. The Commissioner also directed that procurement of computers, printers and scanners should be expedited by DCPs (districts), P&L and General Administration.

The police chief further said that proper protocol should be put in place for ensuring these equipment remain in good working condition. "DCP Communication was directed to submit a weekly report to Special CP (Operations) about the performance of Cyber Highway connectivity," the sources added.

Earlier, a letter written from the office of Deputy Commissioner of Police (crime) sent to senior officers, read that the CCTNS hardware items installed in police stations were found to be physically damaged. "The hardware was purchased by Tech Mahindra under CCTNS project is under warranty. The Engineer attended the complaints on the sites and after inspection gave the reasons for the damaged hardware," the letter read.

It further read, "In view of above, it is, therefore, requested that physically damaged hardware items under CCTNS project shall be repaired by Delhi Police (concerned districts and units) from their funds as per the direction of PHQ either from Tech Mahindra Ltd or from any private vendor, subject to observing the codal formalities under intimation to this office (DCP Crime)."

Recently, the Delhi Police had asked its officers to ensure maximum utilisation of Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS) for sharing of information with senior officers and also with other states' police.
