New Delhi: Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday urged every citizen of the city to become a "farishta" in someone's life by taking them to the hospital in case of an accident. Speaking at the formal launch of "Farishte Dilli Ke" at the Maulana Azad College the Delhi CM announced that so far over 3,000 lives have been saved under the scheme. Health Minister Satyendra Jain was also present at the event.

The formal launch of "Farishte Dilli ke" — an initiative of the Delhi government — was to felicitate good samaritans who took road accident victims to the hospital. While congratulating the good samaritans the CM spoke on the cruciality of the golden hour in a victims life in case of an accident. He said, "the first one hour for the victim right after the accident is often said to be the 'golden hour' by doctors. If a person is taken within the golden hour to the hospital then that person has 70-80% chances of surviving."

Reminding the people of the gory incident of Nirbhaya the Delhi CM said, "For one hour she lay there and nobody took her to the hospital...People fear getting involved in the case, or getting harassed by the police or the fear that what if hospitals refuse treatment, where am I to take the person, it becomes their responsibility. The Delhi government has done away with all those rules. No private or government hospital can refuse treatment. The police have been directed not to harass people who bring victims."

The CM went on to say that he wishes each resident of the city to become a farishta.

Talking about his own commitment to serve people he said, "I am not a politics person. Prior to this job I use to do services for people though NGOs . But God gave me this opportunity to help people at a larger level.. people had lost hope in the government and political parties. But, in the past five years people's views have been changing as they see the benefit of paying their taxes, the benefits they can avail through the government schemes."
