Car rams into crowd in Model town, several injured

NEW DELHI: A car rammed into a crowd in northwest Delhi's Model Town, injuring a man on Sunday night. The video of the car went viral on social media where it is seen that the driver of the car barged his way into a thick crowd causing injuries to many people.

The driver seems reluctant to the crowd's effort to make him stop. It seems he got into an argument and later instead of stopping decided to make his way violently through the crowd. One of the victim even got admitted to the hospital.

An official said a case has been registered after a video was posted on social media purportedly showing a car speeding through the crowd on a busy road Old Gupta Colony of Model Town on Sunday night.

The victim, Kamal, was admitted to a nearby hospital and discharged after treatment. The driver is yet to be identified, the police said.

"A case under Sections 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way) and 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered at Model Town police station on the statement of the injured person," Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northwest) Vijayanta Arya said. Efforts are on to identify the make of the car and arrest the driver, the official said.

In another case of negligent driving an AC bus of DTC bus hit atleast six vehicles at BRT corridor on Monday evening at around 4 pm.

Fortunately nobody was seriously injured in the accident. The driver of the bus told police that it allegedly happened due to break failure.

However, the police has reistered a case of rash and negligent driving.
