Cabinet reshuffle, new gubernatorial appointments after Assembly polls

The Modi government is all set to effect a cabinet reshuffle and appoint new governors after assembly polls in the five states are over. The Prime Minister is expected to finalise the names in consultation with Home minister Rajnath Singh and the party top brass.  The name of former Gujarat chief minister Anandiben Patel is doing the rounds for a gubernatorial slot. BJP veteran Kalraj Mishra might also be appointed as governor in one of the states.

At the present in five important states and one union territory Governors are holding a dual charge. In Tamilnadu, Maharastra Governor Vidyasagar Rao is also functioning as Governor with additional charge. Similarly, Nagaland Governor Padmanava Acharia has also been given additional charge of Arunachal.Gujarat Governor Om Prakash Kohli is also doubling up as Madhya Pradesh governor.

Assam Governor Banawarlal Purohit has been given additional charge of Meghalaya after the resignation of the earlier incumbent in controversial circumstances. E.S.L Narasimhan is holding the dual charge as governor of both Andhra and Telangana for quite some time. Recently Telangana Chief minister KCR Rao requested the Prime Minister to appoint a full-fledged governor for the state.
