NEW DELHI: A bus driver attempted a loot at South East Delhi's Srinivaspuri in broad daylight while trying to take the depot staff hostage with a gun.
The accused also fired a shot in the air to scare the staff and the cashier. He also hit the cashier who carried around Rs 4.5 lakh with the pistol butt.
However, the alert sus depot staff overpowered him and handed him over to the Delhi Police.
The accused was also thrashed by the staff. He was identified as 38-year-old Bharat Bhushan Tyagi, a resident of Subzi Mandi, Uttar Pradesh's Modi Nagar. Accused is working in Gazipur Bus Depot as a driver and used to work in SN Puri Bus depot eight years ago.
"Accused is indebted with a heavy personal loan, he came to SN Puri bus depot to loot cash from the cashier since he was having knowledge of possible cash available with the cashier. During the attempted robbery, a scuffle ensued between them and he fired one shot in the air to intimidate Mahavir Singh, the cashier. Hearing commotion staff came to the rescue of cashier n overpowered accused Bharat Bhushan on the spot," said Chinmoy Biswal, DCP South East.
