Noida: Two bike-borne assailants shot a book trader at his shop in broad daylight in Barola area of Noida on Thursday afternoon. Police said that the victim's condition is critical and a case against five persons has been registered.

Cops said that Anil Kumar Gupta (48) was at his shop in Barola main market when two bike-borne assailants opened fire on him and he collapsed on the ground.

Hearing the gunshots, other traders present in the market rushed to the shop and the criminals fled away brandishing their gun.

According to police, the incident took place at around 12.30 pm. Locals informed police about the incident immediately and a team of senior police officials reached the spot.

"After the information was conveyed, a police team reached the spot and found Gupta lying in a pool of blood. He was rushed to nearby hospital where doctors stated his condition to be critical. He is receiving treatment at a nearby private hospital," said Shwetabh Pandey, Circle Officer-III.

Police officials said that the incident was the fallout of a personal rivalry between Gutpa's tenant and his neighbor, in which the victim had brought about a compromise between the two.

"Preliminarily investigations shows that one of victim's neighbor and his tenant had a fight with each other couple of days before. However, the victim made a compromise among them, but his neighbor Vijay Pal took it as his insult and threatened Anil to kill him.

"Vijay pal's son Vishal has been accused of committing the crime, along with his friend Sandeep and a case under section 307 of IPC has been registered against five persons," a senior police official of Sector-49 police station said.
