New Delhi: With BJP's campaign reaching fever pitch, all seven candidates have gone all out. There is now just a week before the campaign period in Delhi will end and the Election Commission will enforce the silence period. Delhiites will elect their parliamentarians on May 12.
Gautam Gambhir (E Delhi), Parvesh Verma (W Delhi), Meenakshi Lekhi (New Delhi), and Manoj Tiwari (NE Delhi) all held back-to-back roadshows and campaign events on Thursday in their respective constituencies, with none of them deviating from the party line one bit.
Gambhir at roadshows in Okhla and Shahdara brought out his nationalist rhetoric in full swing. He said he has always only ever had two dreams: "One to spread nationalist fervour and the other to serve every last man in my country". Gambhir went on to say that he will always be available for the poorest of poor and the brave soldiers serving the nation by guarding its borders. He said he never feared to face Pakistan even as a cricketer and will continue to stand up for Indians against "political parties with negative mindsets". "Nobody can deter me from my positive and nationalist agenda," he said.
Meanwhile, sitting MP Tiwari visited voters in Mustafabad, where he spoke of more specific issues such as providing solid housing facilities for families living in "jhuggi jhopdis". He said that despite over 70 years of independence, Congress and AAP governments have consistently failed to provide basic amenities to a large population of Delhi.
Tiwari said that under Narendra Modi's leadership, the BJP government has approved schemes that will provide "pucca homes" for the poor by 2022. Moreover, Tiwari said that people should vote for BJP because of Modi's strong stance against terrorism, Maoism, and poverty. In other constituencies, Lekhi, Verma, and Hansraj Hans appealed to voters to elect the BJP government if they wanted Modi's strong leadrship at the Centre.
