Noida: A 49-year-old businessman was allegedly assaulted so brutally by a group of vegetable vendors in Barola village under Sector-49 area of Noida that he died on late Wednesday night.
Police said the victim was identified as Raj Kishor Gupta, a vegetable shop owner in Barola village. On Wednesday night, Gupta had gone to the nearby market to buy vegetables, when he got into an argument with some other vendors.
In the course of the scuffle, Gupta was shoved around and pushed so hard that his head hit ground and he died on the spot, said police.
The incident took place at around 8 pm on Wednesday in a nearby wholesale market.
"After the incident was reported, a police team rushed to the spot. The victim, lying in a pool of blood, was taken to nearby Prayag Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead. The body of the deceased was sent for post-mortem and handed over to the family," said Shwetabh pandey-III, Circle officer, Noida.
"Prima facie investigations showed that the deceased had an argument with some vegetable vendors over purchasing vegetables which ended into a fight between them. The businessman died accidentally, but we are trying to investigate covering all the possible angles," added Pandey.
The deceased man's son, Abhishek, lodged a complaint at Sector-49 police station, alleging that his father was mercilessly beaten to death. Police filed an FIR under section 302 of the IPC against four unidentified persons.
