New Delhi: A superstitious man has been arrested by Delhi Police for killing a barn owl in Outer Delhi's Sultanpuri on Sunday night. The killing of the owl was performed by the accused in a bid to get the desired girl using black magic remedies, said a senior police official. Police have recovered a dead owl from inside an air cooler at his resident.

However, what was alarming was the fact that the owl was not simply killed, rather the accused, 40-year-old Kanhayya, used a brutal method to kill the bird. The accused cut down the owl's toes in order to detach its nails. Kanhayya did not stop there as the bird suffered in deep pain, he punctured the lungs of the owl by piercing needles to perform occult practices.

The accused has been identified as Kanahaya (40), a resident of C-Block, Sultanpuri. He is a truck driver by profession. Stands of hair have also been recovered from his possession. Cops suspect that the hair might be of the woman Kanhyayya wanted to lure.

"The accused Kanahaya disclosed that he wanted to hypnotise and lure a girl. He had watched reports on youtube and read text on the internet that killing owl helps to get the desired girl. The accused m, however, disclosed that he had found the owl in an injured condition on the way but we are probing his statement," said a senior police officer. Kanhayya brought the owl 15 days ahead of Diwali and kept it in a Cooler. DCP, Outer Delhi, Seju P Kuruvilla said that the matter was reported to the local police after the officials from Animal Welfare Board of India got a tip-off.

A raid was conducted by a joint team of local police and officials from Animal Welfare Board of India at his residence where a dead barn owl was recovered. A case under section 9/39 of Wildlife Protection Act, 11 (L) of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and 429 IPC has been registered," the DCP said.
