New Delhi: Delhi Metro's Express Line commuters will soon get mobile coverage in tunnels and at the five underground stations. Moreover to get the operation of telecom, provider will use IBS technology, a concept offered by a single telecom operator, under which all mobile operators can serve their customers in an efficient manner.

The Express Line has five stations, New Delhi, Shivaji Stadium, Delhi Aerocity, Airport and Dwarka Sector 21 section of Airport express line. "To provide the shared mobile coverage, the telecom operator will use 'In-Building Solutions' (IBS), a concept offered by a single telecom operator, selected by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), having a single common infrastructure with which all mobile operators can serve their customers in an efficient manner," sources said.

The service will also offer shared in-building solutions for various types of telecom operators— GSM/CDMA technologies. The telecom operator will set up and manage the IBS at the licenced premises and provide the service to various telecom operators and agencies and charge them an appropriate licence fee. The selected telecom operator, in turn, will pay a fixed monthly license fee and other charges along with applicable taxes, quarterly in advance, to DMRC.

The IBS coverage will be provided through distributed antenna system and it shall be left to the selected bidder to decide on the technology solution that fits best in meeting the coverage criteria, while keeping in view the profile of mobile operators.

The telecom operator will also provide radio frequency signals for the use of Delhi police within a range of 800 MHz frequency band (806-870 MHz) conforming to APCO P-25 standards.

The providers will propagate the RF signal in tunnels and station areas by using infrastructure meant for mobile coverage.
