Advocates can apply from March 21

New Delhi: Under the Chief Minister's Advocates Welfare Scheme, a timeline has been set by the Delhi government under which, a customised online application form with OTP facility will be available on the website of the Law Department.

This application form can be filled in by the advocates who intend to avail the benefits of the scheme. The link on the website of the Law Department will get activated on March 21 at 9:30 a.m. which will remain active till March 31. Law Minister of Delhi Kailash Gahlot said: "In recognition of the role being played by the advocates in society and the legal profession, in particular, this scheme is being introduced by our government."

On December 18, 2019, the Cabinet approved all the recommendations made by the Rakesh Khanna Committee which consisted of group (term) insurance for practising advocates providing life cover of Rs 10 lakhs per advocate, group medi-claim coverage for the advocates, their spouse and two dependent children up to the age of 25 years, e-library with 10 computers loaded with e-journals and web editions of e-journals, along with printers in all the six district courts, and creche facility for advocates and staff employees in each of the six district courts.

After the notification from the Ministry of Law, under the Chief Minister's Advocate Welfare Scheme, lawyers practising in Delhi, their spouse and two dependent children up to the age of 25 years will get the benefit of group medi-claim of Rs 5 lakh. The facility will be provided with group medical coverage through an insurance company. In addition, the lawyer will also be given life insurance coverage of Rs 10 lakh.

The committee recommended setting up of e-libraries in all the six district courts in Delhi. E-library will be set up in all the Courts like, Tis Hazari Court, Patiala House Court, Karkardooma Court, Saket Court, Dwarka Court and Rohini Court along with 10 computers and other facilities including e-journal and web editions. The lawyers will able to access e-journals like Delhi Law Times and the libraries will also have heavy-duty printers.

In view of the problems faced by women employees working in the courts of Delhi, the committee recommended running of crèches in all the six district courts for free.
