New Delhi: A 59-year-old man was apprehended while he was selling crackers in Shahdara area.
Police said that the crackers were worth Rs 2 lakh. According to cops, the accused was identified as Vipin, a resident of Shahdara, was selling crackers to public secretly. A total 170 kilograms of crackers have been recovered from his possession.
A case under sections 9(B) Explosive Act 1884 and 386 IPC has been registered at Farsh Bazar police station and investigation is being carried out.
Delhi police on Tuesday evening detained 20 people for bursting firecrackers outside the Supreme Court. Soon, the cops detained the men and took them to Tilak Marg police station. The Delhi police also went tough on police officers whose laxity led to sale of fire crackers in the city.
DCP Outer MN Tiwari suspended two policemen for colluding with shopkeepers to sell firecrackers. No firecracker shop in the Delhi would be allowed to open till October 31. Many firecrackers shops were forced to shut on Tuesday, Delhi Police spokesperson Madhur Verma.
"We are following the court guidelines against shopkeepers found selling firecrackers and are also taking action as per the law. The police is on tight vigil to ensure that no one violates the guidelines," he said.
