New Delhi: Forty-one citizens, including six women, helped apprehended 51 criminals this 2018, thus helping Delhi Police maintain law and order in the Capital. On Monday, Delhi Police rewarded these citizens as part of its initiative 'Heroes'.
According to officials, the 'Heroes' initiative by the North East Delhi Police is aimed at honouring citizens who showed great resilience in helping cops combating crime.
At the programme, Joint Commissioner of Police (Eastern Range) Ravindra Yadav felicitated the brave citizens.
Among the various brave woman felicitated on Monday was a Class IX girl Himanshi. On February 17, around 11:45 am, 15-year-old Himanshi along with her mother were going home. While waiting for an auto-rickshaw near Signature Bridge, three unknown men came on the motorcycle and robbed Himanshi's mobile phone.
Undaunted, Himanshi and her mother chased the bike and grabbed the pillion rider, who fell from the motorcycle and was caught.
Another braveheart felicitated was Renu, a homemaker. On March 20, around 4.35 pm, an unknown man broke into her house and stole her mobile. Renu immediately raised an alarm and chased down the man. Immediately, with the public's help, he was caught.
In another similar case reported on April 15, 42-year-old Veena was alone in her house when two persons rang the doorbell on the ground floor.
When she peeped outside from her balcony, the men told her that they had come to deliver her voter ID card. When she went to the ground floor, they entered forcefully. The duo then threatened Veena on knife point, and tried to rob her and her daughter-in-law. However, the daughter-in-law shouted out for help and immediately neighbours rushed for help. While one of the culprits was caught, the other jumped off the roof, but was later caught too.
On the occasion, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North East) Atul Kumar Thakur said that North East District police is hopeful that the 'Heroes' initiative will encourage Delhiites to helping others in need to combat crime and help accident victims.
