New Delhi: Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) on Wednesday rescued 39 Nepalese girls, who were being sent to Gulf countries, from a Central Delhi's hotel. Delhi Police claimed that they have not found any human trafficking angle so far and is investigating the matter from all angles. This was DCW's third rescue operation within a week and 73 Nepalese girls have been rescued till now from three different parts of Munirka, Maidangarhi and Paharganj area.
The women commission claimed that they received tip-off regarding the girls and then DCW Chief Swati Maliwal raided the location at 1:30 am. The assistance was provided by Delhi Police. "The entire hotel had only trafficked Nepali girls who were being sent to Gulf countries. Huge trafficking racket was busted once again in the capital," claimed DCW.
According to women commission, the girls were in the age group of 18 to 30 years and had been trafficked from earthquake-affected regions of Nepal on pretext to provide jobs. The Hotel housed only Nepali girls and no money was taken from them. Their agents used to pay for the hotel. The girls were being sent to Gulf countries and Sri Lanka.
Maliwal said, "Poorest of poor women and girls of Nepal are being exploited. Delhi is slowly becoming 'Trafficking Capital' of the world. When will the Home Minister of the country Rajnath Singh Ji will take cognizance? I appeal to Rajnath Singh Ji to call an emergency meeting with LG and DCW over human trafficking rackets running in Delhi."
However, DCP (Central) Mandeep Singh Randhawa claimed that on Tuesday night 53 women of Nepalese origin were found staying in a hotel in Central district by team of Delhi Police and DCW. On verification all were found to be adults. Their statements were recorded in the presence of DCW and NGOs. "Sixteen of them consented for medical examination. From their (women) medical examination, statements & enquiry conducted so far it has come out that they were staying in hotel on their own volition and they had come to Delhi in search of employment opportunity. They have not indicated any cognizable offense committed against them," said DCP.
