New Delhi: On Monday night, 30 policemen in plain clothes gatecrashed the party where criminals had assembled to celebrate the release of gangster Kapil Sangwan from jail on parole. Police arrested 15 criminals from a mini farmhouse in Najafgarh area. According to investigators, the whole operation took place in 40-45 minutes.
Additional CP (Crime) Ajit Kumar Singla said that 12 out of the 15 arrested accused persons have a criminal history and three are first-timers. "We had information that associates of Kapil Sangwan a criminal, would be gathering at a house in Goyala Dairy, Najafgarh sometime during the evening to celebrate the release of Sangwan from jail on parole," Additional CP said adding that some of them would also be carrying firearms.
A team of 30 policemen was formed under the supervision of DCP (crime) Joy Tirkey. "15 policemen waited outside the farmhouse while other personnel entered the farmhouse. We were in plain clothes so nobody recognised us. The farmhouse had one main gate we made sure no one escape," added investigator.
In the party, 40-45 guests were present including relatives of Sangwan who were the party host. Group selfies were also clicked. Vehicles were parked outside the party spot. The party menu had delicious foods, liquors and the 15 criminals were in festive mood. "Sangwan was late in the arrival and we had no time. Our team told the criminals to hands up and don't leave their seat," an investigator said. After verifying the guests at the spot, 15 persons aged between 22 and 35 were arrested.
Addl CP Ajit Singla said Kapil Sangwan has several cases of murder, attempt to murder, extortion, criminal intimidation and possession of illegal firearms registered against him in Delhi and Haryana. "He was in jail since 2016 and was released from Bhondsi jail on June 24 itself," said Ajit Singla.
When asked whether the accused also fired some rounds during the celebration, an officer said," they did not want to get highlighted so they were celebrating quietly inside the farmhouse. It is also being probed whether farmhouse was earlier used for such activity by criminals." During interrogation the accused said that the farmhouse belongs to one of the Sangwan associates but it is being investigated.
