New Delhi: In a bid to purchase an iPhone for a cheaper amount of Rs 3,000, a person was duped of Rs seven lakh in North Delhi. Police have arrested two accused in the case. Police identified the accused as Sachin and Avdesh Yadav. Both were arrested near the North Campus area of Delhi University. "Sachin had come to give an exam when the police team nabbed him. Avdesh was also found roaming at the same place he to was caught," police said.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Harendra Kumar Singh said a complaint regarding online cheating was lodged at Subzi Mandi police station in which the complainant said that he came through an advertisement/ offer over online shopping for the sale of an iPhone for a cheaper amount of Rs. 3,000/- was posted.
"Being attracted by the offer, the complainant contacted the seller on the mobile number mentioned on the web portal, the seller lured him by sending a mail containing a fake bill of the iPhone mobile," said Harendra Kumar Singh.
Police further stated that the seller used to further lure the innocent purchasers to get them into a trap on the pretext of the refundable registration fee, file charges in the name of different policies of company including GST and Service tax etc. Thus, the complainant was cheated of Rs. seven lakh by the accused person. The cyber cell of North district under ACP Jitendra Patel with sub-inspector Devender Chahar started the investigation and arrested two accused. "The Accused persons used to publish advertisement over shopping website for the sale of different electronic gadgets on very cheaper rates with their contact numbers," police said.
When innocent people called them on mobile numbers they first cheated cash from them on the pretext of the refundable registration fee, file charges in the name of different policies of company including GST and Service tax.
