In a remarkable crackdown, Delhi Police unravelled the rape case of a North-Eastern girl in the Deer Park at Hauz Khas Village in less than 48 hours with the arrest of the accused. The accused has been identified as Raja, 19, alias Jundal. The girl was twice raped and robbed of her mobile phone and cash by the rapist before fleeing.
In the intervening night on February 18 and 19, a North-Eastern girl approached the police at Hauz Khas Village and reported that she was raped by an unknown youth inside the Deer Park. The girl told the cops that she was taken by the accused inside the Deer Park on the pretext of dropping her home safely.
The accused, Raja, then took her near the dry pond made for ducks inside the Deer Park and raped her twice. He also threatened to kill her. The victim tried to get out of the clutches of the accused and hit a stone on his right temple after which he started bleeding and ran away by scaling the boundary wall of the park.
After the incident, the cops formed around 10 teams to nab the accused. Local intelligence was gathered to identify and arrest the accused at the earliest.
The CCTV footages installed in Hauz Khas Village and other relevant places were scrutinised as the police teams worked round the clock and eventually, succeeded in establishing the identity of the accused.
The cops then zeroed in on Raja, 19-year-old youth who resided in nearby Arjun Nagar and frequented the Hauz Khas area during late night. The cops then arrested him and he confessed to his crime. Police are questioning him to know if he was involved in any similar case in the past.
"Raja, the accused, worked as safai wala at one of the restaurants situated in Hauz Khas Village and hence, was well aware of the topography of the area. He consumed liquor on the fateful night and targeted the victim and her friend who were waiting for an auto-rikshaw at Hauz Khas Village to go home back," said DCP South Ishwar Singh.
The accused was later produced in court and sent to 14 days judicial custody.
