Gurugram: Criminals in Gurugram seem to be in no mood to stop targeting minors, as a 12-year-old girl was abducted from Sector-35 on Friday.
According to sources, the girl was kidnapped by unidentified people, who were driving a red-coloured SUV.
Not only are fears being raised on the possibility of sexual assault, but fears of human trafficking have also been pointed out.
The incident comes in the wake of assurances from the Haryana government of heightened security cover, following a spate of gang-rapes in the outskirts of Gurugram and other parts of the state.
The kidnapping of the girl also raises question on the security arrangements in the city, with Republic Day around the corner.
In 2017, 154 minors were kidnapped from the city, of which 115 were girls.
Between 2012 and 2017, over 1,062 children were kidnapped, including 677 girls.
According to Gurugram police, most gangs involved belong to Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan and have been highly active in Haryana.
The horror of human trafficking was recently highlighted when Gurugram police arrested a man for selling his 18-year-old niece into captivity.
In her complaint to the district police, the victim stated that in 2008, she was abducted from her house in Dhanwapur and taken to Uttar Pradesh.
