Praduymn Rajput, MLA (Dwarka) since 2009
Rajput is a first time MLA in the Delhi Legislative Assembly. A businessman by profession, he came into politics with a mission to serve his constituency and provide people better facilities. He is confident that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will repeat its success in civic body elections next year and defeat the Congress government in Delhi.
In an exclusive interview with Siddheshwar Shukla, he shares his thoughts. Excerpts:
How did you enter politics?
I looked up to my father for his social service since my childhood days. I also took to serving people from early on. The first opportunity to contest elections came in the 2008 Delhi assembly elections, but I lost to the Congress candidate Mahabal Mishra by around 12,000 votes. The party gave me another opportunity in the 2009 by-election when the seat went vacant due to the resignation of Mahabal Mishra when he was elected MP in the 2009 general election. I won this seat by around 12,000 votes.
What major work have you done for your constituency?
My focus is on providing sewage, water, better roads, schools in our area. A police station has come up in Sagar Pur due to my efforts. I have also got a post office for the residents. The area sadly survives on water tankers, but I am trying to provide water connections to every house in my constituency.
What are the major problems in your constituency?
Transport is the one major area of concern in my area. There is poor connectivity of DTC buses and most of the colonies and villages don’t have any buses plying through them. But now a road is being built after covering Sagarpur drain and I want to ensure that many DTC buses ply on this route.
Will the BJP be able to repeat its success in municipal elections in 2013?
The people of Delhi had voted the Congress party to power in 2008 on the promise to regularise unauthorised colonies. Not even a single colony has been regularised so far. The people of Delhi are fed up with price rise, corruption and fake promises made by this government.
