With the mercury soaring in the capital city since 8 May, the demand for power has increased with maximum demand reaching 4611 MW on Thursday. But Delhi is getting only 600 MW of power due to technical snags in the Dadri Thermal Power-2 and Badarpur Thermal Power station(BTPS).
While Dadri-Thermal-2 developed a snag late on Wednesday night, BTPS was found to be not functioning properly on Thursday morning.
According to official sources, load shedding was reported from different parts of the city due to 600 MW shortage.
Forced shedding due to technical snags in generation and disruption in power grids can not be ruled out, an official said.
According to sources, one unit of Dadri Thermal-2 has a generating capacity of 510 MW, but due to the snag, 80 per cent electricity (about 400 MW) could not be generated. Similarly, one unit of BTPS generated around 210 MW less power that its capacity.
