Delhi has been rated as the ‘Best Performing State’ in terms of power sector development in the country, according to a statement made by Delhi Transco Limited’s spokesperson. In recognition of this achievement, the city has been conferred with the Power Line Award, that was given away by Jyotiraditya M  Scindia, union minister of state (independent charge) for power.  Constituted by Power Line, a premier magazine for Indian Power Sector, the selection for the winner was made by a jury headed by  R V Shahi former secretary, ministry of power, government of India. The award was received by  A K Haldar, director (operations) DTL.

‘The power sector reforms implemented a decade ago in Delhi has yielded good results and such recognitions are a motivating factor for initiating further development in the power sector,’ said Shakti Sinha, principal secretary (power), government of NCT of Delhi.

The Delhi Power Sector has gone through tremendous changes over the past twelve years, explained Delhi Transco Limited’ spokesperson. The erstwhile Delhi Vidyut Board was a loss-making body and the efficiency level was very low. The government of Delhi unbundled Delhi Vidyut Board in 2002 and roped in private players to look after the distribution, which was the most critical area.
The generation and transmission was kept by the government under its jurisdiction.
