Delhi police say yes to Barapullah Phase -II

The Delhi government’s Public Works Department (PWD) submitted recently a fresh plan for Barapullah Phase-11 to the planning body United traffic & Transportation Infrastructure planning and Engineering center (UTTIPEC).

PWD had laid down foundation of Barapullah elevated road Phase-11 on 9 February 2013. But the traffic police had objected to the three loops on Aurobindo Marg (near INA Market) as it would create jams on the arterial roads.

PWD minister Raj Kumar Chauhan admitted that PWD has so far submitted three alternatives to the earlier proposal: the first, an elevated road, which would direct the traffic from Barapullah to towards Jor Bagh. The second alternative was  an elevated road that would direct traffic coming from the AIIMS flyover towards Barapullah.

Third alternative proposes a long elevated U-turn from the Dilli Haat side to cross over to the other side.

But UTTIPEC says the earlier plan, which was based purely on traffic movement of the stretch, does not take into consideration various other development projects such as Metro connection and Central government’s scheme to develop Kidwai Nagar. This would eventually create a traffic nightmare, feel experts.

Chauhan said Barapullah elevated road project phase-11 has commenced and in the next two to three days, the work will begin near INA.
