Delhi police arrest ‘Gangster of Gonda’

Rajesh Kumar, better known as the Gangster of Gonda was arrested by the crime branch of Delhi Police on 12 March. Rajesh had a reward of Rs 25,000 on him, that had been declared by Delhi Police. Rajesh was wanted in five cases in Gonda, including murder and looting passengers in a train. He later shifted his base to the National Capital Region.

According to the police, on 28 May 2012, at 12 noon, two young boys came to a beverage office at Lawrence Road Industrial Area in Delhi. They were accompanied by the company chowkidar Vinod Bora. Vinod Bora informed the cashier, Manohar Lal, that both the boys had come to deposit  cash at the office, as workers were in the habit of doing.  

Bora left, and Lal asked the boys to sit down. But one of the boys positioned himself on guard at the main door, while the other aimed a pistol at Lal and demanded money. He threatened to kill the cashier if his demand was not met.

In the ensuing scuffle, the boy hit Lal with the butt of the pistol and grabbed a bag from the counter containing Rs 20-22 thousand in cash and documents.  Lal raised an alarm and Rahul, the owner of the firm, reached the spot and one of the assailants, who was identified as Virendra Pratap Singh, was overpowered and caught by police.

But the other offender, Rajesh. managed to evade arrest, till he was finally caught on Tuesday.
