Yet another incident in the national capital proves how the Delhi Police have lost its glory. This time, an Assistant Commissioner of Police posted with the anti-terror unit in Special Cell was brutally beaten up by three persons including a woman near the Lodhi Crematorium in south Delhi on Thursday evening.
The condition of the assaulted ACP, identified as Amit Singh, is stated to be critical and he is at the AIIMS Trauma Centre and was unfit to give a statement. Meanwhile, all the three accused have been detained and are likely to be arrested soon. The accused reportedly runs a sex racket in south Delhi.
The incident took place at around 4.30 pm when ACP Amit Singh was on his way to the Special Cell office in Lodhi Colony in his government vehicle, Toyota Innova, but with no police sticker. ‘Mid-way, a speeding car driven by a minor coming from behind dashed into the ACP’s car from the right side.
Despite being signaled to stop, he continued to drive negligently,’ a Special Cell official said. Singh instructed his driver to follow him.
He was stopped near Lodhi Crematorium and when the driver advised the accused to drive properly, the latter indulged in a quarrel with ACP’s driver. At this time, two persons, including a woman piling on a motorcycle reached the spot, and started beating the driver. When Singh got down from the car to save his driver he was brutally beaten by the trio. ‘According to eye-witnesses, Singh was attacked with helmets. The locals who gathered at the spot saved the police official and nabbed all three accused. They were later handed over to the police,’ Rajeev Ranjan, DCP (Special Cell) said.
During investigation it was learnt that the car was driven by a minor who is a resident of Greater Kailash Part-II. The other accused have been identified as his mother, Rajni, who allegedly runs a sex racket. During the incident she was accompanied with her live-in-partner,Yogesh Kochar, who has a criminal background.
Speaking to Millennium Post, a highly-placed source in Special Cell said, ‘A case was already registered against Kochar under the sections 307 (attempt to murder) and 325 (Punishment for voluntarily causing grievous hurt).’
ACP Amit Singh is a direct DANIPS officer and has spent only four years in service.
