CISF, which provides security to DMRC has trained two batches of the shortlisted CISF women personnel in the Filipino martial art of ‘Pekiti Tirsia Kali’ for self defence and also to ensure safety of women commuters in the Delhi Metro. Training of the previous batches lasted seven weeks and that of the third batch is expected to begin from 29 September, 2014.
‘It is observed that large numbers of male commuters are driven out daily from the coaches reserved for ladies in Metro Rail by CISF. On an average, 25 to 50 male commuters are penalised everyday by imposing a fine of Rs 250 each by the Station Controller of the concerned station, who show their reluctance to leave the concerned women coaches or cause obstruction in discharge of official duty by the personnel,’ said Hemendra Singh, CISF spokesperson.
‘These CISF women personnel will take care of those who undermine women dignity in public transport and to intend to offend in any manner. They will travel in Metro Rail and randomly check the coaches reserved for women commuters with an element of surprise to drive out the male commuters who board ladies coaches despite advisory and repeated announcements during travel in Metro Rail. Such male commuters found in ladies coaches will be de-boarded and taken to the Station Controller, DMRC for imposing fine as per Delhi Metro Rail Act. The male commuters found reluctant to leave the coaches reserved for ladies, will be forcefully driven out of the Metro Rail and handed over to Delhi Metro Rail Police for stricter action,’ he added.
CISF women personnel in addition to Operation Kali, will also handle and respond to any instances of misbehaviour, aggression or violence against women in the Delhi Metro. Equipped with close quarter combat skills which do not require weapons, these personnel will be capable to respond and control any situation where weapons may be used as well.
