The under construction Moti Bagh Metro station on the Majlis Park – Shiv Vihar corridor of Phase 3, will be located on the intersection of Ring Road and Rao Tularam Marg. This pedestrian subway will facilitate the entry of passengers, who will come into the station from the other side of the Ring Road.
The subway will be integrated with the Moti Bagh Metro station through lifts and staircases.
‘As the Moti Bagh Station is being constructed parallel to the Moti Bagh Flyover, no entry /exit point could be provided for the commuters on the New Moti Bagh side and therefore this subway had to be planned’, read the statement from DMRC.
Apart from the metro commuters, the subway will also be useful to pedestrians coming from the opposite side of the Ring Road.
This 70-meter long subway will be constructed using the ‘box pushing’ technology under which vertical excavation or large scale digging is not required. ‘This method is much faster than the conventional cut and cover technology used generally for the construction of subways’, read the statement.
The work on the subway is expected to start in May and will be completed in nine months.
In order to minimize the inconvenience to the movement of vehicles on the roads, the DMRC has decided to use the ‘box pushing’ technology for the construction of a number of underground subways in Phase 3.
Apart from Moti Bagh, the technology is already being used at ITO. It will also be used for the construction of subways as well as entry/exit structures of metro stations at Dabri Mor, Panchsheel Park, Chirag Delhi, Nehru Place (on the Janakpuri West – Botanical Garden corridor).
