Delhi Metro records highest ridership of 27 lakh commuters

The Delhi Metro on Tuesday recorded the highest ridership of over 27 lakh commuters in a single day, surpassing the previous record set on 21 July.

The number of passengers travelling by metro 4 August was 27,05,807, breaking the previous record of 21 July when 26,84,132 commuters used metro services, said a statement from the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).

The Blue Line connecting Dwarka Sector 21 to Noida City Centre and Vaishali remains the busiest route with a ridership of 10,23,245, recorded on 4 August.

According to the DMRC, a slew of measures have been taken by Delhi Metro to cater to such a huge ridership.

Additional 136 coaches have been added since last year and the average speed of trains has been increased from 33 kmph to 36 kmph.

During peak hour, headways between trains in Yellow line has been improved from 2 minutes 38 seconds to 2 minutes 18 seconds and in Blue Line it has been improved from 2 minutes 45 seconds to 2 minutes 36 seconds, the statement said.

Additional 200 Automatic Fare Collection Gates have also been installed at various stations.
