It is apparently done to make couples aware of the embarrassment they cause to travellers using the metro facility.
Shockingly, the concerned authorities-- Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) deny issuing or displaying these posters at any of the metro stations. ‘We have not put any kind of posters banning such things at the Delhi metro premises,’ an official at DMRC said.
A DMRC official alleged that CISF might have pasted those placards, pursuant to which Millennium Post contacted the CISF. Denying the allegation, Hemandra Singh, PRO CISF, said, ‘Pasting posters at the platform or anywhere in the metro premises is not our concern,’ Several complaints have been made to the DMRC officials about couples sitting in compromising positions on the platforms and misusing lifts that are meant for old and physically challenged commuters. Few couples are seen getting intimate on staircases which, apart from causing discomfiture to travellers, also block passenger traffic.
Millennium Post had earlier published a story about how CCTV footages capturing intimate exchanges between a couple inside a metro coach found its way on the internet. A probe was on about who uploaded the footage on Youtube and other pornography websites, but it didn’t lead to any concrete evidences against anyone.
Currently, there are 135 metro stations functioning in the national capital and around 25 lakh commuters who board the metro every day. These advisory posters were spotted at around a dozen of metro stations.
‘Whosoever took the initiative of pasting these bills on the wall of the platforms has done a very good job. Couples misuse the metro premises at odd hours to get cozy. They misappropriate and reclaim this public space as private. They should be ashamed of themselves. It has become such a public nuisance of late,’ said Rihana, a regular commuter of metro.
