The nationwide protests against the Delhi gangrape incident seem to have had no effect on would-be molesters. In a shocking incident, a driver and conductor of a Bangalore Municipal Transport Corporation (BMTC) bus allegedly molested a young woman hailing from Bhutan, even as her sister was beaten up early Tuesday morning near the Tin Factory here.
The alleged molestation in the BMTC bus speaks volumes about how ineffective deputy chief minister R Ashoka’s (also the transport minister) recent late night city rounds has been. The incident clearly mocks at the minister’s rounds as it had occurred in broad daylight, even as other commuters stood mute witness to the happenings. The two young women (identities withheld), working as civil engineers with a private firm, left for work at 7.30 am from Kammanahalli, where they live, to Marathahalli. They boarded the Volvo bus (route no 500-D). The sisters alleged that a seemingly trivial argument, over a 100-rupee note given to the conductor for buying two tickets costing Rs 45 each, led to their molestation.
Meanwhile, Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation is conducting a probe into allegations by a 23-year-old woman from Bhutan that a bus conductor misbehaved with her. BMTC has taken the conductor and driver of the Volvo bus off duty pending completion of the enquiry.
