Amid the crisis, Delhi government released nearly Rs 500 crore to the Corporations for immediate release of salaries but the Mayors of all three BJP led Corporations, after meeting with the Lieutenant-Governor, <g data-gr-id="46">rued</g> that the released amount was insufficient.
Meanwhile, miffed sanitation workers threatened to intensify their stir by dumping more garbage in the city. “Although agencies claim to have released <g data-gr-id="40">salaries</g> but no money has been credited to our accounts. We will call off our strike only when all demands are fulfilled. A few pro-MCD unions have announced <g data-gr-id="47">calling-off</g> their strike but a majority of the unions are in favour of continuing it,” said Rajendra Mewati, president of Delhi Pradesh Safai Mazdoor Union. The BJP accused Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi and the ruling AAP of provoking employees and playing politics over non-payment of salaries.
Meanwhile, the Delhi government released Rs 493 crores to the three municipal corporations on Friday for payment of salaries to sanitation workers. This was conveyed by Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung to the three Mayors and Commissioners who called on him. Earlier, Delhi High Court directed the ruling AAP government to release the salary dues of east MCD employees by June 15. The Court issued notices to the Centre, Delhi government and east MCD on pleas seeking removal of garbage and payment of salaries to the civic body staff.
Aam Aadmi <g data-gr-id="35">Party on the other hand</g> blamed corruption <g data-gr-id="29">in <g data-gr-id="34">corporation</g></g> for the ongoing crisis. Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said the L-G must ensure cleanliness of the city. “L-G intervenes in most <g data-gr-id="33">matters,</g> but is silent over the MCD issue,” Sisodia said. The Congress party said the ongoing tug of war between Centre and AAP government over civic bodies was detrimental to the people of the city. Party spokesperson <g data-gr-id="30">Ajoy</g> Kumar said thousand tonnes of garbage was lying on the <g data-gr-id="32">roads</g> but neither BJP nor AAP cared.
