Delhi govt extends financial assistance for poor patients

Delhi government on Tuesday decided to extend the scope of financial assistance for the treatment of poor patients under the Delhi Arogya Kosh scheme.

This decision was taken at the governing body meeting of Delhi Arogya Kosh under health and family welfare minister A K Walia and was attended by secretary [health], director [health services] and other members of the governing body.

Walia announced the decision to extend the benefit of the Delhi Arogya Kosh to all pensioners who answer the eligibility criterion of the scheme. In the meeting, the health department decided to release assistance to patients who are getting assistance from other sources like the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund. Such patients will now receive financial assistance if the amount released under other funds fall short of their sanctioned estimate.

According to Walia, the governing body sanctioned financial assistance amounting to Rs 26.25 lakh with respect to 15 cases under the Delhi Arogya Kosh. Out of these cases, four were from AIIMS, three each from GB Pant and Lok Nayak Hospital, two each from Safdarjung and RML Hospital and one from Dr Hedgewar Arogya Sansthan.

The financial assistance of Rs 2.79 lakh was sanctioned with respect to three cases under the Delhi Arogya Nidhi. Out of these, two  were from Lok Nayak Hospital and one from the Institute of Human Behaviour and Allied Sciences.

The diseases for which financial assistance has been sanctioned include valve replacement, bone marrow transplantation, cochlear implantation surgery, knee replacement and hemodialysis.

The health minister added that during the current financial year 2012-13, the financial assistance amounting to Rs 80 lakh and Rs 12.35 lakh has been released under the Delhi Arogya Kosh and Delhi Arogya Nidhi schemes respectively.
